Wayvinne Dawson

A Whole New Age of SA Comedy

News flash! Wayvinne Dason will be performing at the 3rd Vodacom Comedy Festival at the Baxter Theatre Cape Town – 19th June to 8th July. Wayvinne has been invited to join a line up of international top comics including Junior Simpson, Rebecca Carrington, Colin Brown and Lucy Porter from England, Stephen Grant from Wales and South Africa’s headliners Martin Jonas and Riaad Moosa.

There’s no denying it ….. Wayvinne Dawson has arrived!

Wayvinne Dawson – blasted onto the comedy stage at the age of 21. He had no experience and no formal training in performance technique. All he had was a screamingly funny outlook on everyday issues. And that’s all that was needed. It served as confirmation to Wayvinne, who thought at the time that becoming a comic would be easier, and probably safer, than marrying the Taxi Don’s daughter.

Since that first open mike night four years ago, Wayvinne has been storming. He’s performed at all the big comedy festivals like YFM’s Blacks Only, King Size, Arts Alive, the Mpumulanga Arts Festival and was a hit in Zambia, where he performed at the Independence Day Comedy Jam.

He brought the house down at the Old Mutual Comedy Festival at the Baxter Theatre, Cape Town, in April 2007, holding his own in a line up of top headline comics including Martin Jonas, Marc Lottering and Martin Davis from London. And that’s why Eddie Cassar invited him to join the line up of top international and local comics at the three week winter Vodacom Festival, Cape Town’s premier annual comedy event.

Already well known on the South African comedy circuit, the Wayvinne take on life has been featured a lot on television and radio in the past few months. And, considering his boyishly charming good looks and off-the-cuff brilliance, we will probably be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

Savvy corporate clients like Standard Bank, FNB, Kulula and KPMG are loving his fast paced, universal act. His sophisticated comedy style and off-the-wall commentary on current issues fits well with the suits.
